The 'white backgrounds are worse for the environment' is actually not true. LCD monitors require energy to activate the LCD crystals to block the backlight (and turn the screen black). So black backgrounds require more energy.

Having said that, the actual energy difference is so miniscule that it is basically not measurable.</description>
