Please find below the latest newsletter from Ben Nicholson, Victoria-Tasmania Coordinator, Green Roofs Australia, www.greenroofs.wordpress.com.

Greetings one and all to you ‘green collar’ workers and prospective Green Roofs Australia members, This email is to provide you with an update on the recent work of the Green Roofs Australia Executive Committee with respect to:

You and/or your organisation will be notified of your membership details following each monthly meeting of the GRA Executive Committee, in accordance with the GRA Constitution;

* GRA is hosting a series of Australia-wide seminars including one in March in Melbourne by Professor Manfred Kohler, Head of the World Green Roof Infrastructure Network. Attendance at the seminar will be free of charge for GRA members who join before 1 February 2008. For more on Prof Kohler’s visit, go to the GRA website: www.greenroofs.wordpress.com;

* A Victorian green roofer’s get together will be held in early 2008 for members and invited guests, to coincide with Prof Kohler’s visit. The GRA website will have more information on this in January. You can apply via the GRA website for updates and new stories on green roofs from around the world – see above for the link;

* The Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show. GRA have applied for an exhibition space in the Carlton Gardens and are awaiting approval of the design. Any assistance with time and/or sponsorship for this event would be warmly received. Please contact Ben Nicholson to volunteer your time and sugestions for sponsorship; and finally,

* The 2008 Green Roofs Australia conference has been postponed until June 2008 and will be held once again in Brisbane. Other capital cities will host the annual conference in the years to come. Calls for conference speakers and information on the conference program will commence in early 2008.

The GRA Executive Committee have been working hard throughout the year to promote green roofs in Australia and develop networks both here and abroad. Please show your support and join us in our efforts by becoming a member today.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions regarding this message. If you do not wish to receive any more emails from GRA, please reply to this message and write ‘Remove’ in the subject title.

All the best as we head toward the end of the year and into a greener 2008.

Kind Regards,
Ben Nicholson

Hey,
Couple of things:
1) Did you know that White backgrounds on websites are the worst for the environment. You may want to consider moving to a black background
2) Why if I want to join do I have to “print off the membership application form”? Why not have an online sign-up that means trees don’t have to die!

hi there
if you would like to buy gifts for Christmas that are respectful of the environment & workers in developing countries check out http://www.moralfibre.com

@Molly:

The ‘white backgrounds are worse for the environment’ is actually not true. LCD monitors require energy to activate the LCD crystals to block the backlight (and turn the screen black). So black backgrounds require more energy.

Having said that, the actual energy difference is so miniscule that it is basically not measurable.
