We know from daily experience that that the demand for residential development is putting pressure on land used for food production so that ‘the last crop of the land will be houses’. While it is recognized that 25% of our food is grown in and around the urban areas, it has not been seen as a priority land use planning issue.

The VLGA’s cutting edge project funded by VicHealth exploring these issues is now well underway in partnership with Latrobe University . Dates for workshops across Victoria have been finalised and locations and venues, along with more detailed information on this Project can be found on our website.


Sustainable Living Festival Call for Applications 2009

The Sustainable Living Festival hits the streets of Melbourne in 2009 to inspire sustainable action for our local neighborhoods, homes and communities.

Celebrating its 10th Birthday, the Festival will present a program that will span over two weeks and feature a range of community events that will lead up to the main celebration at Federation Square on the 20-22 February 2009.

CERES Spring Workshops - September to November

As the weather warms up and blossoms start to appear, CERES is readying for another season of workshops. There are some new additions including mozzarella cheesemaking, water wise homes and indian cooking. LOBBYING KNOW HOW

MEDIA KNOW HOW

VAEE State Conference 2008

Every year the VAEE (Victorian Association for Environmental Education) holds a conference for its supporters, its members and the environmental education sector. It’s a big networking event for educators and individuals who are passionate about sustainability.

As VAEE (Victorian Association for Environmental Education) and our supporters are actively pursuing sustainable change in our society, we continuously strive to develop links with local and ethical suppliers of goods and services when organising such events. This years event will be held on the 22th and 23rd August in the Royal Botanic Gardens.

In addition to the workshop program we are hosting a discussion panel with Frank Fisher (Swinburne University), Charles Berger, (ACF - Australian Conservation Foundation), Alan Moran (IPA), Eric Bottomly (CERES - Centre for Education and Research in Environmental). Two networking sessions on Friday at 4.30 pm and on Saturday at 3.30 pm will allow to get-to-know others and make contacts!

Get ClimateWise Now! Workshops - How to reduce your carbon emissions

Climate change requires urgent action by all. In recognition of this Manningham City Council has taken the lead to initiate the carbon rationing action groups to pool community enthusiasm and resources to make a real practical difference now.

Staff and residents of Manningham have the opportunity to learn how to make substantial reductions in their carbon emissions and create change by becoming involved in Carbon Rationing Action Groups (CRAG’s). The ‘Get ClimateWise Now!’ program is offering residents a series of eight workshops covering topics such as solar electricity, solar hot water and heating, domestic wind energy, electric transportation options, green building & retrofits, greens financing, food miles and serious recycling with discounts and exciting offers for carbon rationing participants.

The 6th workshop ‘Green Building/Renovations & Double Gazing Options‘ has a great speaker on the green building topic plus has an introduction into the CRAG groups and the great offers for sustainable technology and home energy audits.

Green Building Council of Australia launches Future Green Leaders

The Green Building Council of Australia has launched a new initiative called Future Green Leaders which aims to educate university and TAFE students in its national rating tool, Green Star, and sustainability.

Its free to register and Future Green Leaders will have the opportunity to attend exclusive half day workshops on Green Star, visit Green Star certified buildings, attend networking events, as well as have access to other seminars and forums throughout the year.

Sustainbility Street extends invitation to advocacy workshop

Join with others to make your voice heard.

Sustainability Street Carlton have been running workshops for the local community for most of this year. The topics have been as varied as Sustainability for Renters, Local Purchasing and Green Cleaning. The next workshop is Green Advocacy.

Louise Morris from Environment Victoria is running the workshop which will deal with ideas such as, constructive activism, finding the right information, how to focus your efforts, different organisations that can provide assistance, how to get the best results from your effort. There will also be time for all the questions which people may have.

Carlton Sustainability Street would like to extend an invitation to all Sustainability Streets and individuals who may be interested in attending this workshop.
