Towards a just and sustainable post carbon economy: Public forum

Roy Neel is currently Chief of Staff for former US Vice President Al Gore, overseeing his climate change advocacy programs, national and international political relationships and liaison with his clean energy business interests. He is also an Adjunct Professor of Political Science at Vanderbilt University, where he teaches courses in the U. S. Presidency, White House operations, and Presidential Campaigns, and White House Transitions. In this free public lecture Roy Neel will draw on his experience of climate change and sustainability politics in the United States to reflect on the key road blocks standing in the way of effective action and on the importance of creative and courageous leadership in driving a rapid transition to a just and prosperous post carbon economy.

THE ADVOCACY TOOLKIT a practical weekend workshop series for community activists

Date: Saturday 13 September
Time: 9.30am – 4.30pm

  • Speak confidently and effectively in public
  • Manage high-pressure interactions with decision-makers
  • Create presentations that educate, inspire and persuade

Date: Saturday 20 September
Time: 9.30am – 4.30pm

  • Find the money from governments, trusts and companies
  • Tailor your project to the priorities of a funding body
  • Write an effective grant application

Date: Saturday 4 October
Time: 9.30am – 4.30pm

  • Have an impact on the policy making process
  • Develop a targeted lobbying strategy to achieve your goals
  • Conduct an interview with a member of parliament

Date: Saturday 11 October
Time: 9.30am – 4.30pm

  • Plan a media campaign for maximum ‘newsworthiness’
  • Write a media release that grabs attention
  • Give a media interview that gets your message across

Sustainbility Street extends invitation to advocacy workshop

Join with others to make your voice heard.

Sustainability Street Carlton have been running workshops for the local community for most of this year. The topics have been as varied as Sustainability for Renters, Local Purchasing and Green Cleaning. The next workshop is Green Advocacy.

Louise Morris from Environment Victoria is running the workshop which will deal with ideas such as, constructive activism, finding the right information, how to focus your efforts, different organisations that can provide assistance, how to get the best results from your effort. There will also be time for all the questions which people may have.

Carlton Sustainability Street would like to extend an invitation to all Sustainability Streets and individuals who may be interested in attending this workshop.
