Nominations for the United Nations Association of Australia World Environment Day Awards 2009 ARE NOW OPEN. The World Environment Day Awards is a national awards program which recognises businesses, local governments, organisations, community groups, individuals, schools and the media whose work serves to protect, manage or restore the environment.

Nominations are invited from all Australian Sectors for the following categories:
· Szencorp Green Building Award
· Building Commission Award for Best sustainable residential development
· Lincolne Scott Sustainability Leadership Award
· Meeting the Greenhouse Challenge Award
· Education/School Award
· Business Awards
(Best specific environmental initiative; and Environmental best practice program)
· Community Award
· Excellence in Sustainable Water Management Award
· Individual Award for outstanding Service to the Environment
· Local Government Awards
(Excellence in Sustainable Water Management Award)
· Media Award for Environmental Reporting

In recognition of the 2009 United Nations World Environment Day theme ‘Your Planet Needs You – UNite to Combat Climate Change”, the UNAA World Environment Day Awards will focus particular attention on global warming and opportunities for countries, companies and communities to work together to combat the enormous challenges we face.
