Seeking Keen green volunteers for Community Centre makeover

Posted in Seeking by Ferne Edwards on March 6th, 2009

Please find a message below from Darebin’s Sustainability News. It discusses how Darebin Council is seeking assistants to convert the Jika Jika Community Centre into an EcoLiving demonstration centre. This sounds like a great idea – mixing social with environmental interests and reinvigorating community ownership of local centres. Why doesn’t this happen in each Council? If you’d like to comment on this idea please do so below this post.

Free training in home energy and water conservation is on offer in 2009 to volunteers who help turn Jika Jika Community Centre in Northcote into an EcoLiving demonstration centre.  Jika Jika is looking  for local community volunteers to help plan the green makeover of the Centre. No special skills are required, just interest and enthusiasm.  Training for the volunteers will be provided by experts from Moreland Energy Foundation. The free training course starts in early 2009. People interested in volunteering can register now.

Can you please tell me if the training course has started yet (as at 16th March 2009)?
Would people from a non-English-speaking background be able to cope with the level of English used, assuming they had reasonably good listening comprehension skills?

I am a teacher of English as a second language at NMIT in Preston.
You can phone me on 0449781104 or 9269 8321 and leave a message.

    Thank you.
