Professor Paul James, Director, Globalism Institute, RMIT University, spoke about the importance of community and sustainability in his presentation at the Sustainable Cities Round Table titled, “Global Cities and Community Sustainability“. James is also Director of the associated Global Cities Institute at RMIT University, which was established in 2006 “to bring together key researchers at RMIT University working on the processes of globalization, climate change and sustainability in the urban context.” The Institute focuses on a number of carefully-chosen cities and their hinterlands in the Asia-Pacific region, which include Ho Chi Minh City, Melbourne, Chennai, Kuala Lumpur, Port Moresby and Shanghai. The Institute engages in cutting-edge and applied research that has realworld consequences for communities, governments and organizations.
