Seeking a living library for sustainable conversations

Posted in Models by Ferne Edwards on October 22nd, 2008

I was recently contacted by Jane Wilson, TAFE Liaison Librarian, Wantirna Campus Library, for people who live sustainable lifestyles to participate in their Sustainable Building launch as a living book. Please read on for more information. If you’re interested in participating please contact Jane directly – her details are below.

Swinburne University is officially opening a Sustainability Building at its Wantirna Campus. Later in the month, Thursday 30 October, 10am – 12 noon we will be holding a Living Library around the theme of sustainability.

The concept of the Living Library, where people with interesting points of view are able to be “borrowed” for up to 20 minutes at a time was developed in Denmark. The City of Lismore held the first in Australia – click here to learn more about their event.

We are looking to recruit people who would be willing to give two hours of their time and be a book. So far we have a Landscape Gardner, a member of the CFA, a woman who recently held a “sustainable” wedding and a forester who specialises in creating farm forests. I am wondering if you know any you could recommend that I approach.. We “bribe” the books with tea, coffee, bickies and lunch!

Regards,
Jane
