Creeds Farm Living & Learning Centre (CFLLC) is located approximately 4 kilometres to the north west of Epping town centre on Melbourne’s urban growth boundary. The Centre is a collaborated effort to place early infrastructure in a growing area, which anticipates up to 8,000 households and an increased population of 25,000 people to the area. The concept of developing an early hub for community activities and services resulted from broad consultation undertaken in 2004. This research recognized the desire of residents to feel connected to their new community and foster its fledgling identity and sense of place. The Centre includes a meeting room, program spaces, training areas, a community kitchen and garden. As a growing organisation in a fast growing part of Melbourne, the Centre aims to create opportunities for people to meet, learn, and play. Local residents are encouraged to share their expertise, knowledge and ideas and develop a space that is useful, inviting, and relevant to local interests and needs.
The Centre is unique in that it also doubles as an eco-demonstration house, and is committed to showcasing sustainable design and behaviour. The building design is innovative in its commitment to:
* Adopting environmentally sustainable design principles
* Identifying flexible design principles to adapt to multiple uses that change over time;
* Interactive design principles that promote inclusivity, involving community and connecting people;
* Durability and low lifecycle maintenance.
Programs and activities at the Centre include garden design workshops and a nightmarket – check out the website for more information.
