Local action & Network - 3rd Melbourne Social Forum this weekend

The 3rd Melbourne Social Forum launches this Friday night, 6pm, 20 April, at RMIT University’s Storey Hall. Opening night speakers talking about "Change the Political Climate - Community Responses to the Howard Catastrophe; include Gilbert Rochecouste, Village Well (MC), Helena Norberg-Hodge, International Society for Ecology and Culture, Stephen Mayne, Founder of Crikey.com.au, Aunty Sue Rankin, a Kulin Nation Elder and Verity Burgmann, Professor of Political Science at the University of Melbourne.

The Forum will then continue over the weekend with over 52 workshops to be held at CERES, East Brunswick, with themes ranging from response to the climate crisis, creating sustainable transport, social and political transformations in Latin America, Australia’s role in the Pacific, Indigenous rights, and re-localisation, biodiversity and food, with many more!

In addition, the 3rd Melbourne Social Forum has a variety of cultural activities, including visual arts and poets, performance artists, a media film night and world music, in addition to many stalls. The event closes with a celebration hosted by Sue Charles Rankin, featuring Robbie Thorpe, vocalist Julia Trybe and the Sacred Life Walk 2007.
