Master Class with Dr. Wendy Sarkissian on World Environment Day
Posted in Events by Virginia on May 19th, 2009
On World Environment Day (5 June), the Victoria Local Government Agency (VLGA) will be hosting three master classes with planner, sustainability practitioner and co-author of the new book Kitchen Table Sustainability, Dr. Wendy Sarkissian.
This new ground-breaking book presents a model that demonstrates how building community trust and capacity and bringing the whole sustainability debate down to our kitchen tables, empowers both community members and those who work with them to bring about transformative change.
For more information, please visit VLGA.
As Dr. Sarkissian said, “Now, more than ever, we need to find ways to bring about massive changes the planetary crisis demands. We know we cannot do this without strong community engagement. Yet it is increasingly evident that our engagement approaches are not up to the challenges, leaving communities dispirited and disenchanted.”
There are three separate and targeted master classes available on World Environment Day, Friday 5 June. In these classes, Wendy will discuss approaches and challenges for action in today’s context. She will present a flexible model to make community engagement work for everyone.
The workshops are designed to support people working in community engagement with sustainability issues at all levels. In particular,
Statutory and strategic planners
Climate change officers
Social and community planners
Council policy officers
Members of the community
