Event – Western Treatment Plant Community Weekend – 14 & 15 June
Posted in Events by Ferne Edwards on June 10th, 2008
The Western Treatment Plant, a Melbourne icon with over 100 years of history, will be open to the community on the weekend of June the 14th and 15th. Bus tours of the plant will be available, and visitors can learn about the operation of the treatment plant, including new water recycling initiatives and how Melbourne Water are using methane to generate electricity. You will have the chance to visit one of Australia’s largest bird sanctuaries. The Water Discovery Centre, featuring an interactive look at Melbourne’s water cycle, will also be open to the community.
The Western Treatment Plant is home to the Amphibian Research Centre and, as such, the ARC too will be opening its doors to the public. There will be access to the Amphibian Research Centre during the day with staff on-hand to answer questions.
