2008 Environs Australia Sustainability conference

Environs Australia has announced the dates and theme for its conference this year after the success of the 2006 and 2007 events. This years theme is ‘Sustainable Development in 2008 and the conference will focus on ongoing projects towards sustainability in the current year.

Date: Wednesday 10th and Thursday 11th September

Location: Sydney at Dockside, Darling Harbour.

Environs President, Evan Thomas, said he was pleased to announce this years two day conference, and expected that it would be even more successful than 2006 or 2007. “Each year it is exciting to see how the conference brings forward the latest projects and information relevant to local governments striving to develop local sustainable communities.” Mr Thomas said. Mr Thomas invited local governments and others to submit abstracts, papers and case studies for presentation at the event.

The conference will also feature the second Environs Australia ‘Local leadership in Sustainability awards ceremony. There are nine awards for local government authorities (LGAs) and partnering organisations. Of these, there are Silver Awards are for Outstanding Achievement in Sustainability (urban, urban-rural interface and rural), Outstanding Sustainability in Partnerships (large, medium and small LGAs) and Sustainability Leaders (local government councillor and local government officer).

In addition a Golden Award will be judged from the Silver Award winners for Outstanding LGA Sustainability Achievement.Nominations for the awards are invited from local governments and partnering organisations.
