In this workshop you will learn how to raise your own organic native fish to eat and produce delicious water efficient organic veggies at the same time! The weekend covers both the theory and practice of designing, building and maintaining productive backyard style aquaponics systems which you can create in your own garden at home. Dr Lennard is a biologist and commercial aquaponics consultant who has been researching aquaponics systems suitable for Victorian conditions for the last 7 years.
The workshop will cover the following topics as well as involving actually building a small scale system.
1. The history of Aquaponics and its relevance today in regards to water scarcity and food localisation.
2. The technical considerations of building your own system at home.
3. Suitable fish and plant species, fish feeding and plant nutrient requirements.
4. Water quality and testing, manipulation of system temperature during winter and more.
