Seeking applications to take part in digital storytelling workshop, Environment Victoria

Posted in Events by Ferne Edwards on January 8th, 2008

Environment Victoria is searching for ten people to take part in their inaugural digital storytelling workshop, to share their personal, and perhaps unique, connection to Hattah Lakes.

Hattah Lakes is a unique wetland environment and popular holiday spot in Victoria’s north-west, where natural forests, sand dunes and lakes provide a safe haven for rare native birds, fish, plants, and many other living creatures. It also holds particular meaning and special memories for locals, as well as 70,000 annual visitors to the area.

Applications close 7 February 2008.

According to the Green Building Council’s website, 181 William Street is the latest project in Victoria to achieve a 5 Star Green Star - Office Design rating from the Green Building Council of Australia.

The building employs many technological and architectural initiatives that are set to improve performance in relation to energy consumption and minimize environmental impact. Seeking information – Where is food produced within Greater Melbourne?

Posted in Research, Seeking by Ferne Edwards on January 2nd, 2008

I’m currently conducting a research project to map where food is produced within Greater Melbourne, based at the Victorian Eco-Innovation Laboratory (VEIL), the University of Melbourne. I’m interested in all types of food production on a scale greater than household production and would appreciate people’s input to locate what food is grown where.

I have categorized food production in Melbourne in the following way:
• Community gardens (including community gardens in environmental/ community centres, public housing estates and school gardens)
• Commercial production and market gardens
• Hydroponics
• Food for extended/ household family (includes shared private gardens or production for greater than one household)
• Gourmet/ niche food production
• Street edge gardening – ie. nature strips & street trees

For each of these categories I am interested in:
• Where food is grown (so this can be mapped)
• The food type
• Possible contact details for further information.

I realize that I may be easily overwhelmed by this information but at this stage of the research I don’t mind! Please send any information you have to fedwards @unimelb.edu.au.

Thank you,

Wishing you a Happy New Year!

Best,
Ferne
